No matter who you are, or where you are on life’s journey, you are always welcome here.  Currently a provisional elder in the United Methodist Church, he is excited to be in ministry with the people of Broadway and the Lake Eola Heights neighborhood in hopes of preaching and teaching God’s love. In his spare time, Rev. Rushing enjoys spending time outside, reading non-fiction books, and musical theater.

Broadway UMC Orlando History

Broadway United Methodist Church traces its roots back to 1922 when it was founded as the North Lake Street Methodist Church in Orlando. The church was born out of a desire to serve the growing northeastern part of the city. Dr. W.A. Cooper and Dr. William Funk led the first gathering, which took place in a home. Shortly after, a simple tabernacle was constructed to house the congregation’s worship services. The cornerstone of the permanent church building was laid in 1927, symbolizing the congregation's commitment to their mission and community.

Today, Broadway UMC continues to live out that commitment by serving as a vital hub for arts, community, and social justice. We are proud to host Opera Orlando and the Ballet, reinforcing our support for the arts. Our partnerships with the Society of St. Andrew, working to end hunger, and Faith in Florida, advancing social justice, further exemplify our dedication to transforming lives in our community.

More than ever, Broadway UMC is passionate about sharing the love of Jesus with our community. We remain dedicated to our mission, rooted in Christ's love, and we are committed to bringing that love to the heart of downtown Orlando. Sharing Jesus with the world is our passion, and we continue to work tirelessly to make his love known to all.
